Home Bread Baking

!±8± Home Bread Baking

What about that smell of fresh baked bread. Does it smell good, or what? It takes you back to grandma's place when we were young. She always cooked her own bread. It was always fresh and hot when we went for a visit. And that kitchen was just full of that lovely smell. You don't see it as much now. We are much too busy to be baking bread. It does take a little work not that they had any options in the old days. Now we just pop into the bakery or local supermarket and grab a loaf off the shelf. But is it real bread. Is it anything like real bread that they used to make in the old days with their home bread making.

The kids these days will only eat that horrible white stuff they call bread. Sorry if you like white bread but it does leave a lot to be desired. Take a couple of slices of fresh white bread and squeeze them together in your hand. What do you get. A ball of dough. Heavy, soggy, wet dough. You know what happens when you eat that stuff. They reckon that it takes about three days for white bread to pass through your digestive system. That is three days that ball of dough is laying about inside you causing goodness knows what. They think maybe it could be one of the causes of bowel cancer later in life.

Still, that's what kids want and that's what they get. Shame that kids are like that. My kids used to eat my homemade healthy bread that I used to bake in our wood fired oven. It had all sorts of grains in it and bran. My kids can still remember sitting down at school to one of my big fat healthy sandwiches for lunch. Still, it was hard work always making bread. I used to do up 6 loafs at a time about twice a week. A bonus though was on some Sundays. When it was our turn to have someone over for Sunday lunch we would leave a big pot of home made vegetable soup simmering on the stove all morning. When we got home from church I would whip up a batch of my home made fresh bread rolls. Sunday lunch was always a hit.

Today we are lucky. We can return to the days of good old home made bread. Healthy bread made with healthy ingredients. The new wave of bread makers are here and make the whole process very easy. Fully programmable and automatic you can have a fresh hot loaf ready whenever you like. Want to wake up to fresh bread Sunday morning. Want to have fresh hot dinner rolls ready for your guests. What about cinnamon raisin bread or honey wheat, rosemary, cranberry oat, hearty rye, cheese onion focaccia, classic French bread or any other recipe you fancy.

Can you see the benefit. Find a healthy bread that your family likes and enjoys. You will love serving something healthy and they will love you for it. Check out a new bread maker now and you can be home bread baking. There are plenty of bread makers about. Check the store qualifications. Check the customer reviews. As long as you can find 4/5 stars and plenty of happy customers you will on the right track. But most of all, get your family eating healthy bread and ban that horrible commercial white stuff.

Sweet Corn Butterers

!±8± Sweet Corn Butterers

While the name may be humorous, the usefulness that you'll get out of a sweet corn butterer is definitely present - no joke! Indeed, if you're looking for useful tools for your kitchen, particularly during sweet corn season, a corn butterer should definitely be on your list. Contrary to popular belief, it's quite possible to get more than one use out of a corn butterer, making it less of a seasonal kitchen tool and more of a strong kitchen tool for all seasons.

It's better to make sure that you pick up a corn butterer that meets your needs instead of one that will simply fall apart long before you've really gotten any use out of it. Thankfully, there's one place where you are practically guaranteed to find a quality corn butter tool: the Internet. There are plenty of quality online retailers that have corn butterers that come in a variety of different formats, including the popular Pampered Chef butterer.

At this point, you might feel a little overwhelmed when you realize just how large the selection of corn butterers (also called corn butter spreaders) are online, but you don't have to feel this way for long. Indeed, there are just a few quick things you need to know about picking up a quality corn butter spreader for your kitchen table.

First, you want to think carefully about the size of the corn butter spreader. Size is critical in the cooking world, since any tool that won't be able to handle the size of your food will ultimately render it useless - and who wants to deal with that? It's better to make sure that you get a butterer that will fit the corn that you plan on serving to your family. Corn on the cob is a delicious and hot treat that's perfect all year, not just during the summer. Modern supermarkets even carry frozen corn on the cob, which means that you won't have to wait until summer just to get a delicious side dish for your family to enjoy.

Size is not the only factor that you will need to consider - design is just as important. Indeed, you want to look for a corn butter spreader that has a way to securely let the butter glide over the corn without having any of it wasted. Butter is still a premium product in some ways, and it's better to save your money and use it effectively than to have it wasted. The Pampered Chef butter tool has received good reviews in this category.

From a design perspective, material selection is something that you'll need to think about, but this is also an area where you'll have a little bit more wiggle room. You can get a plastic butter tool if you're considered about durability as well as your budget - they're small but will stand up to daily use easily. If you have a bit more money to spend, you might want to think about a stainless steel butterer, which provides a sharp and beautiful look and powerful durability at the same time.

The Good and the Bad About Hard Anodized Cookware

!±8± The Good and the Bad About Hard Anodized Cookware

Personally, I love my Rachael Ray Hard Anodized Cookware Set. It is really cool to cook in and it cleans up easily. I particularly like the silicone handles. I am famous for grabbing a pan without potholders; so they keep me from getting burned so often.

There are some advantages of hard anodized cookware as well as some features that some people might classify as disadvantages.

This type of cookware is very durable. Most of them are both oven and broiler proof which makes it more versatile than other types of cookware. The set that I got has all of most commonly used sizes of pans including a Dutch oven which I use all the time. They are also great for sauteing.

Hard Anodized cookware is made out of aluminum which is a great heat conductor which results in the cookware heating quickly and uniformly. There is concern about aluminum reacting to acidic food which can cause the metal to leak into the food. To keep that from happening, the cookware goes through a process that creates a non-porous, non-reactive film over the aluminum cookware sets. Anodized cookware has been determined to be safer than regular aluminum pans and the anodizing process makes it extremely resilient.

This type of cookware won't scratch, dent or burn. Because it is coated and non-porous, it is way easy to clean. It is stick-resistant and unlike non-stick cookware, you can use metal utensils with it. You do not have to worry about the coating getting in your food, which is nice.

The disadvantages of this type of cookware are that it is not dishwasher safe and the handles get extremely hot. That's probably why the Rachel Ray design uses silicone handles. This type of cookware also cannot be used on an induction range or induction oven. If you don't know what that means, you probably don't have one. It's a fancy stove that professional cooks and chefs use when the heat is generated in the pan rather than from the stove top.

If you haven't used hard anodized cookware, you don't know what you are missing. I wish I would have tried it long ago because it is pretty amazing. It is fairly inexpensive when compared to other types of cookware and in my opinion, it is much better than non-stick cookware. There are several brand of anodized aluminum cookware. You might want to check out some reviews before you buy a set.

Benefits of Cast Iron Cookware

!±8± Benefits of Cast Iron Cookware

Many people find that they love cast iron cookware. With a properly seasoned piece, cleanup is made simple and takes no time at all. In addition, people tend to find that these pans heat evenly so cooking in all areas of the cookware works well.

But what you might not know about cast iron cookware is that it has some health benefits as well. As we explore the health benefits that are available, keep in mind that there are many other benefits to these great pieces of cookware.

For those who need to add iron to their diet, cast iron cookware provides an additional level of iron to the food you cook. Because the human body requires an adequate amount of iron in your daily diet, this can be an essential way of getting it. The iron consumed is used to create the hemoglobin that is required to send oxygen through the bloodstream. When cooking, it is important to recognize that acidic foods will absorb the greatest amount of iron while cooking.

In fact, cast iron cookware is the only type of cooking unit that has proven nutritional value associated with it. This will give the health conscious comfort in knowing they can cook and enjoy their favorite foods in this healthier option.

Another great health benefit is the lack of oil that is required for cooking. Because the pans are seasoned (which makes cleaning easier), they are also non-stick so recipes won't have the added calories and fat that are associated with regular pans. For those watching what they eat, or are in need of limiting butters and oils, this helps to provide the perfect solution.

Fans of non-stick cookware should take note of the next part. While cast iron cookware gives off no toxic fumes when it is being used for cooking, non-stick cookware has been shown to give off these deadly fumes, in fact those who have birds in the general vicinity of the non-stick pan that is cooking have lost their beloved pets.

Of course cast iron cookware has a warning attached to it as well. If you have a naturally high level of iron in your body from a disease called hemochromaosis you shouldn't use this cookware. Another consideration is that fat can quickly become oxidized which may make it carcinogenetic, so deep frying in generally a bad idea on the cast iron cookware.

For most people both those concerns are minor. The presence of hemochromaosis is very minor and is usually from a significant amount of iron being added to the diet of a person. Normal use of this cookware won't contribute to the disease. In addition, a little fat in the pan won't be cause for harm. The real concern comes when you deep fry in considerable amounts of oil and let it sit there.

Overall, cast iron cookware is the perfect solution for all your cooking needs. Keep in mind all the health benefits there are, and choose the right set that works best for you.
